The riders in the night ride through Kimberleys with all their might, through the long grasses, and scrub, screaming, yelling and shouting to scare away the night and bring out the sunlight.

The Kimberly region was mapped out and explored for a long time. First to see it was a Dutch navigator in 1644 when he spotted it from the coast then explorers William Dampier in 1687 then Nicholas Baudin in 1801.The coast was chartered by Philip King in 1818 and 1822 but it was explored by land by George Grey in 1837.The Kimberly region is where the indigenous people of Australia have lived for over 40,000 years. European occupation began in the 1870’s and with them they brought smallpox disease is covered the ground in spinifex like a grass that bites and stringy bark and grasses. It is a harsh land and hot with the welcoming summer rain falls which turns everything green. The picture shows the pioneers of the past a ghost on the plains riding for there was a gold rush once long ago there. There shacks are long gone their memory but a whisper on the still air.
