The Vietnam War
(On Patrol in Vietnam)
Australian policy was at this time to stop any form of communism effect within the region. It was also the first time that there was front line news coverage in war and the first time that it was recognized that it could be used to manipulate the media and create in effect propaganda to effect outcomes back home and play on emotion. Hence there was much anti war protests but this was fuelled by the propaganda they wished to portray hence the Australian soldiers were given a hard time and no welcome home parade.

The Korean War
(1950-1953)
Got your back

At the end of the second world war North Korea was occupied by Russia troops. There was a boarder between North Korea and South Korea called the 38th parallel and American troops were in South Korea that was when the Japanese surrendered. When Russia pulled out of North Korea it left a communist government which was the newly formed North Korean democratic peoples Republic. The Russians withdrew from North Korea in 1948. The United Nations decided on supervised elections in South Korea in 1950 and South Korea had an anti communist government so the Americans withdrew from South Korea.

Mateship

How ya going cobber (mate) by 1917 Australians were calling their mates digger it was a New Zealand expression but that no mattered to them and kind of replaced cobber by 1918.But it made them feel different from the other troops and a humorous larakin lot swift and decisive. Australian soldiers are quick thinking reliable ruthless and tough kinda scally wag way and no snow flake far too mischievous for that. Out spoken and candid and good at a bit of wit and self mockery to boot. But loyal friend mate, cobber, digger, when the chips are down and when it all looks like a run away train that's when you see them shine.
